Aboriginal Dot Painted Tribal Masks

These dot painted masks originate from the islands of Lombok and Bali, Indonesia. The various regions within Indonesia represent a variety of masks that are influenced by the local culture, folklore, legend and religion and the masks themselves symbolize people, mythical creatures, demons and deities. They are used to pass down oral history from each generation to to preserve culture, tradition and religion. In some local practices, they are used to ward off evil spirits and are typically displayed in homes to represent good luck, power and fortune.

Artisans use a very laborious paint technique to enhance them which involve painting hundreds of small dots with an acrylic type paint to form intricate patterns and motifs.  The colors are bright and the overall effect is quite exotic and simply magnificent!

We carry an assortment of these masks...they are all handmade and vary in color and design.  Due to their handmade nature, you will receive one from our assortment....you may even receive one that is not pictured here.
